Line Magnetic – Some Thoughts

Posted on February 15th, 2012 by roscoehifi

We are very, very pleased with our new Line Magnetic integrated amplifiers, build quality and value are substantial. The beautiful hammertone finish harkens one back to a by gone era and the tonal quality is as pure as it gets for anywhere near the price. At $1,650, the 211IA offers performance that you’d expect for twice the price.  We are really stoked about Line Magnetic, now we have another tube line that offers our customers a chance at the elusive dictum called “Pride of ownership”. Come in for an audition.

The $350 Wharfedale Diamond 10.1 loudspeakers are here. Wharfedale is one of the world’s oldest loudspeaker manufacturers, they were making speakers when my grand daddy was still gigging. The diamond series have been getting some serious attention, reviews have been off the charts. Now for the big question. Do we like them? YES! They are amazing for the money. Partner these up with our new Line Magnetic (LM Audio) mini 218 tube integrated amp ($795) and you’ve got a beautiful tube driven system for under $1200!

The editor of Gear Patrol, Eric Yang, visited the store this past fall and wrote about his experience . We enjoyed a morning of searching through  LPs in the ILS record store and then listening to the music on our Shindo 301 turntable in our new reference sound room. Gear Patrol is an online website that reports on luxury products in every category, from exotic cars to watches, clothes to aircraft (yes, aircraft) and everything else you could possibly imagine in between.  Check out what he had to say about In Living Stereo.

The New Rega RP1 Turntable is here!

Posted on October 30th, 2010 by roscoe

Rega has done it again. The RP1 is Rega’s new entry level table but it’s so good you would think you were listening to a $1,500 player. It cost just $445 and that includes an ortofon cartidge. How is the RP1 different from the old P1? It has an all new composite platter and a improved tonearm with the most buttery smooth bearing that can be had for anywhere near the price. The plinth has also been re-executed so that it releases excess energy away from the platter bearing more efficiently. Let’s face it, Rega makes the greatest budget audiophile turntables and tonearms on Earth, anyone who knows anything will tell you that. The RP1 is available in black, white and cool grey.

Shindo Vosne-Romanee preamplifier review, off the charts!

Posted on September 29th, 2010 by roscoe

Art Dudley reviewed the Shindo Vosne Romanee in the October 2010 issue of Stereophile. The last paragraph sums it up nicely.

” Shindo Electronics have been, for me, nothing short of revelatory. That isn’t because I find them to be useful tools, and certainly not because they appeal to my otherwise thrifty nature as a consumer-Not Hardly, as we say in upstate New York-but because they simply delight me. Without meaning to condescend: When you’ve had enough of spending thousands of dollars on the kind of sound that the gurus say you ought to like, and you’re ready to please yourself by spending your money on gear that you stand a chance of loving and keeping and handing down to your descendants, you can do no better than this brand. These are the Western Electric Model 93s, the Leak Stereo 20s, the Marantz Model Sevens of the future. Obviously. For the here and now, the Shindo Vosne-Romanee is simply the most musically insightful, emotionally captivating, intoxicatingly beautiful, and thoroughly pleasant-to-use preamplifier I’ve had in my home. It isn’t just expensive, it’s valuable. I’ll be a sorry sack of sadness when it has to go back.”
