We now offer Tannoy Prestige Loudspeakers

Posted on February 4th, 2010 by roscoe

The Tannoy Prestige Kensington Se high sensitivity loudspeaker uses a horn compression driver for the high frequencies and a 10 inch paper woofer for the lows. The Kensington’s use the patented dual concentric design developed by Tannoy in the 1940s. Tannoy is one of the oldest speaker manufacturers in the world and the word “Tannoy” can even be found in the Oxford English Dictionary as a name for a PA device. A superbly musical and easy to drive speaker system, they sound great with low wattage SET amplifiers. Plus, they are super cool with their retro styling and adjustable cross-over. Great with a finger of scotch.

Rick’s System

Posted on January 28th, 2010 by roscoe

RAF System (5 of 5)

This is Rick’s jamming system. He built it one brick at a time and ended up with something timeless. He started with the DeVore Gibbon Super Eight loudspeakers. A few months later he added the wonderful Leben 300x EL84 based integrated tube amp. Next came Auditorium 23 speaker cables. A few months later the Rega P5 with a Shelter 501. A year or so went by and he replaced the Rega MC fono with the Leben RS 30Q tube moving magnet phono preamp and a Auditorium 23 103 step-up transformer. A Shindo cable here and there months later. Then a custom sized Box Furniture rack got the system to another sonic and aesthetic level.  Just recently he switched the Rega P5 and Shelter out with the amazing Well Tempered Amadeus GTA and a EMT JSD 6 Super Fine line cartridge. Next up for the coming year is a new Shindo Mr. T Line conditioner. The system has soul!

Great cartridge choices for the Well Tempered Amadeus

I’ve got a dynavector 17D3 ($995) on the Amadeus GTA at the store. I recently installed a EMT JSD6 Gold ($4,295) on a customer’s Amadeus GTA and it sounded outstanding. Both the Dynavector and the EMT are Moving Coil type cartridges.

I received an email today from the customer with the EMT/Amadeus GTA combo and his comment on the table set-up was as follows: “I’m speechless over the TT”.

The turntable works great with a variety of cartridges, you won’t be disappointed by either a EMT or Dynavector cartridge.

Finally a proper application for a center channel speaker!

The new Well Tempered Amadeus GT on Demonstration

Posted on September 29th, 2009 by roscoe

I’m blown away by the performance and elegance of this beautifully engineered turntable. The Amadeus GT was easy to set up, easy to tweak and easy to love. It’s highlighted by a unique zero clearance suspended tonearm that can accommodate any cartridge, no matter what the compliance, because of its adjustable dampening via a fluid immersed golf ball … pure genius. It has incredible clarity, great pitch stability and rhythmic momentum. I’ve been searching for a turntable that can be fitted for between $5,000 and $10,000 depending on cable and cartridge options for so long I can’t tell you. It was getting depressing and to the point where I figured I’d never get that perfectly priced play back machine. Although there are many similarly priced turntables out there, none of them offered the type of performance and value worth the investment. Until Now!!!!
